2016 Isuzu Npr Xd

The 2016 Isuzu NPR XD has 5 recalls, the most serious involving rear wheel and axle hardware that can loosen and shift, reducing braking performance or causing a propeller shaft separation and loss of drive power.

On the wheel end, locking bolts on the left rear wheel hub can work loose and allow the wheel assembly to migrate outward from the axle, making the truck harder to control and longer to stop. Separately, the U-bolt nuts that clamp the rear axle to the leaf spring pack can also loosen and let the axle rotate out of position, which can cause the propeller shaft to detach and leave the truck without power to the rear wheels while moving. On the structural side, the crossmember that the transmission mounts to may have burrs left from the stamping process that cause the mounting studs to crack and break over time. With the transmission no longer properly supported, it can shift erratically or refuse to change gears. There is also a concern with the cab-mounted fire extinguisher, which may not discharge correctly if needed during an onboard fire. Finally, certain trucks built during a narrow production window in mid-2015 have tire placard labels that may be difficult to read or understand, meaning an owner could unknowingly run underinflated tires or exceed the vehicle's load rating.
