The 1998 Isuzu Rodeo has 4 recalls, the most serious being suspension and electrical issues that can leave the vehicle difficult to control or cause it to stall unexpectedly while driving.
Two recalls address the rear suspension. Vehicles operated in provinces where road salt is heavily used may develop accelerated corrosion around the rear suspension lower link mounting brackets, weakening the attachment point faster than normal wear would cause. A separate suspension concern involves the rear axle lower link bracket: where paint was applied too thickly and did not cure fully, the surface under the bracket bolt head or nut can compress over time, allowing the nut to loosen and reducing the stability of the rear axle connection. On the electrical side, a ground connection terminal in the engine wire harness can fracture if the crimp was not made properly. When this happens, the powertrain control module reads the faulty signal as an indication of dangerously high vehicle speed and cuts fuel delivery, which can cause a no-start condition or a sudden engine stall. The fourth recall applies only to V6 models and involves the evaporative emissions system: a rubber purge hose that runs near the exhaust pipe can crack from the heat, allowing fuel vapors to escape rather than be routed back into the engine.
