On certain vehicles equipped with a 5.4L 3-valve engine, the brake booster vacuum supply hose attached to the intake manifold fitting may swell over time and lose retention force. This could allow the hose to become detached from the fitting during an intake manifold backfire. Should this occur, the driver would only have a few brake applications with power booster assist before the vacuum reserve is depleted. When this happens, foundation brake function would be retained, but will require increased pedal effort. Extended stopping distances may result in a vehicle crash, causing property damage, and/or personal injury or death..

On certain vehicles, the grommet holding the brake line to the front struts may slip out of its bracket. Consequently, the brake hose attached to the brake line may come in contact with the tire and be subject to wear and abrasion. This could cause some brake fluid leakage which would eventually illuminate the brake warning indicator light. If a loss of front brake performance occurs, the rear brake circuit will still be functional, and will be able to slow and stop the vehicle.

On certain vehicles, the front suspension coil springs may have received insufficient corrosion protection during manufacturing and, in areas where road salt is used, may be susceptible to corrosion. Additionally, rubber sleeves were applied near the top and bottom of some springs to eliminate noise. The sleeves can trap salt water, increasing the potential for excessive corrosion. Over time, excessive corrosion can cause spring failure. Spring breakage in the bottom sleeve area could puncture the tire.
