CERTAIN PASSENGER, MINI VANS, AND SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES HAVE AN AIR BAG INFLATOR ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE THAT COULD FRACTURE AT A WELD DURING A DEPLOYMENT.
Safety Risk
PIECES OF THE INFLATOR COULD STRIKE AND INJURE VEHICLE OCCUPANTS AND THE AIR BAG CUSHION WOULD NOT INFLATE FULLY, REDUCING THE CAPABILITY OF THE BAG TO PROTECT THE DRIVER.
Remedy
DEALERS WILL INSPECT, AND REPLACE, IF NECESSARY, THE AIR BAG MODULE ASSEMBLY ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN AUGUST 15, 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT BUICK AT 1-800-521-7300, CADILLAC AT 1-800-458-8006, CHEVROLET AT 1-800-222-1020, GMC AT 1-800-462-8782, OLDSMOBILE AT 1-800-442-6537, OR PONTIAC AT 1-800-762-2737.
On certain vehicles equipped with the 2.5L engine, a particular type of spider may weave a web in the evaporative canister vent line which may cause a restriction in the line. If this occurs, the fuel tank pressure may become excessively negative when the emission control system works to purge the vapors from the canister. As the canister is purged repeatedly during normal operation, the stress on the fuel tank may eventually result in a crack causing a fuel leak. Fuel leakage, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire causing property damage and/or personal injury.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will clean the canister vent line and install a spring to prohibit spider intrusion. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) will be reprogrammed with modified software having a function to avoid excessive negative pressure of the fuel tank. When any damage of the fuel tank and/or presence of a web in the canister vent line are found, the fuel tank and the check valve on the canister vent line will be replaced.

On certain Grand Prix GTP and Regal GS vehicles equipped with a 3.8L supercharged engine, degradation of the front rocker cover gasket may result in eventual oil seepage. Under hard braking, drops of engine oil may be deposited on the exhaust manifold. If the manifold is hot enough and the oil runs below the heat shield, it may ignite into a small flame and, in some instances, the fire may spread to the plastic spark plug wire channel and beyond. An under-hood fire could result in property damage, personal injury or death.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will install an updated front rocker cover gasket.

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES. THE ACCELERATOR CABLE MAY HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED WITH A BURR ON OR NEAR THE END OF THE CABLE SLEEVE INTERIOR. THIS BURR COULD FRAY THE CORE WIRE RESULTING IN THE ACCELERATOR NOT RETURNING TO IDLE WHEN THE ACCELERATOR IS RELEASED.
Safety Risk
THIS CONDITION CAN RESULT IN THE THROTTLE STICKING, BINDING, OR CAUSING HIGH ENGINE RPM.
Remedy
DEALERS WILL INSTALL A REVISED ACCELERATOR CABLE THAT HAS A FLARED CONDUIT SLEEVE END AND MOLDED ON END FITTING.
On certain vehicles electrical contacts in the ignition switch can degrade due to the high electrical current passing through the switch when the vehicle is started. Worn contacts could cause the engine to stall without warning, increasing the risk of a crash.
NOTE: VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 2.8 LITRE,6 CYLINDER ENGINES.
AN INTERACTION OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT ENVIRONMENT AND MAINTENANCE OR SERVICE RELATED FACTORS COULD CREATE THE POTENTIAL FOR AN ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRE WHICH COULD SPREAD TO THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
VEHICLES WILL HAVE A MANIFOLD DEFLECTOR INSTALLED, A PCV SYSTEM MODIFICATION, A MINOR CHANGE TO DECK LID SEALING AND A GENERAL INSPECTION (AND REPAIR AS NECESSARY) OF UNDERHOOD FLUID AND WIRING SYSTEMS. ADDITIONALLY, 1985-86 MODEL YEAR VEHICLES WILL HAVE A NEW EXHAUST MANIFOLD INSTALLED TO BRING THEM UP TO 1987-88 SPECIFICATIONS.

This service campaign is for certain replacement rear brake drums that were sold by Mitsubishi dealers. The brake drums may have been made with wheel stud holes that are too large. As a result, a wheel stud could spin when tightening the wheel nut. This can reduce the clamping force between the wheel and the brake drum. If this happens, the wheel may eventually come loose and could separate from the vehicle.
Note: This service campaign is not being conducted under the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Safety Risk
A wheel that cannot be properly tightened could increase the risk of a wheel separation. This could increase the risk of a crash. A wheel that separates could also hit another person or vehicle.
Remedy
Mitsubishi will contact owners that may have had these brake drums replaced at a Mitsubishi dealer. They will advise affected owners to take their vehicle to a dealer, who will replace any affected brake drum(s).

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: 1995 PASSENGER VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH THE 2.0L AND 2.5L ENGINES, AND 1996 VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 2.5L ENGINES. TIGHTENING OF THE ENGINE COOLING FAN MOTOR BEARINGS, UP TO AND INCLUDING MOTOR STALL, CAN RESULT IN INCREASED MOTOR TORQUE AND HIGHER THAN NORMAL MOTOR CURRENT AND ACCOMPANYING HIGH MOTOR TEMPERATURES.
Safety Risk
OVERHEATING OF THE COOLING FAN MOTOR DUE TO EXCESSIVE CURRENT CAN RESULT IN SMOKE AND ODORS FROM BEARING GREASE, INSULATION AND OTHER INTERNAL MOTOR COMPONENTS. IF ELECTRICAL CURRENT CONTINUES TO BE APPLIED TO THE MOTOR, INTERNAL MOTOR COMPONENTS COULD IGNITE POSSIBLY IGNITING OTHER ENGINE COMPARTMENT COMPONENTS.
Remedy
DEALERS WILL INSTALL A POSITIVE TEMPERATURE COEFFICIENT DEVICE IN-LINE WITH EACH FAN MOTOR. FORD WILL ALSO EXTEND THE WARRANTY ON THE ENGINE COOLING FAN ASSEMBLY TO A TOTAL OF 8 YEARS OF SERVICE OR 100,000 MILES FROM THE WARRANTY START DATE, WHICHEVER OCCURS FIRST. IF THE VEHICLE ALREADY HAS MORE THAN 100,000 MILES, THIS COVERAGE WILL LAST UNTIL JULY 31, 2001.
On certain 525I and 525IA vehicles, when driven at normal engine operating temperature with an ambient temperature of 5 degrees centigrade or less, different thermal expansion rates of the throttle valve shaft and housing may impede the movement of the valve and prevent the valve from returning to the closed position. If this occurs, the vehicle will not decelerate at the usual rate after the gas pedal is released.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
The axial clearance of the throttle valve housing will be measured and all housing with insufficient clearance will be replaced.
