Safety Risk
An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
Remedy
Owners are advised not to drive their vehicles until the remedy is performed. BMW will notify owners, and dealers will replace the passenger frontal air bag module, free of charge. The recall began March 14, 2019. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

On certain vehicles, the driver and/or right front passenger seat-mounted airbag inflator could produce excessive internal pressure during airbag deployment. Increased pressure may cause the inflator to rupture, which could allow fragments to be propelled toward vehicle occupants, increasing the risk of injury. This could also damage the airbag module, which could prevent proper deployment. Failure of either of the seat-mounted airbags to fully deploy during a crash (where deployment is warranted) could increase the risk of personal injury to the seat occupant.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the affected driver and/or passenger seat side airbag modules with new production modules.

DEFECT: THE THROTTLE VALVE STOP MAY CRACK AND POSSIBLY BREAK DURING OPERATION CAUSING AN ERRATIC IDLE OR HIGH IDLE SITUATION THAT MAY RESULT IN A LOSS OF CONTROL AND AN ACCIDENT.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.

Certain vehicles equipped with an Automatic Transfer Case may have a condition in which an electric signal short may cause the transfer case to switch to neutral without operator input. The transfer case mode selection knob would still indicate the last selected drive mode, but the driver would not have any feedback that the transfer case is in neutral. If the transfer case switches to neutral while the vehicle is in motion, the driver would experience a loss of motive power and, if the vehicle is parked without the parking brake applied, the vehicle could roll away. Both scenarios could result in a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will re-program the software of the Transfer Case Control Module.
