On certain motorcycles, the engine may not have been manufactured properly. As a result, there could be increased oil consumption. Under certain conditions, this could cause the engine to fail and the rear wheel to lock up while riding.
Safety Risk
A rear wheel that locks up suddenly could cause a loss of control and increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Honda will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your motorcycle to a dealership to inspect the engine. The engine will be replaced, if necessary. For motorcycles that don't require an engine replacement, the final corrective actions are under development.

On certain vehicles equipped with a 3.8L engine, degradation of the front rocker cover gasket may result in eventual oil seepage. Under hard braking, drops of engine oil may be deposited on the exhaust manifold. If the manifold is hot enough and the oil runs below the heat shield, it may ignite into a small flame and, in some instances, the fire may spread to the plastic spark plug wire channel and beyond. An under-hood fire could result in injury and/or property damage.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will remove the spark plug wire retention channel at the front of the engine and install two new-revised spark plug wire retainers. For vehicles with the 3.8L V6 Supercharged engine (RPO L67), dealers will also replace the front (left hand) rocker cover gasket.

EXTENDED HIGHWAY OPERATION DURING VERY LOW AMBIENT TEMPERATURES (-20 DEGREES CENTIGRADE OR BELOW) MAY RESULT IN ICE FORMING IN THE POSITIVE CRANKCASE VENTILATION (PCV) SYSTEM. IF THIS OCCURS, THE CRANKCASE MAY BECOME PRESSURIZED, WHICH COULD FORCE OIL OUT OF THE ENGINE. IF THE OIL IS FORCED PAST THE ROCKER COVER GASKET, IT COULD CONTACT THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD, WHICH POTENTIALLY COULD RESULT IN A FIRE.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
DEALERS WILL INSTALL REVISED, COOLANT HEATED PCV SYSTEMS.

On certain vehicles, the bolt that connects the engine lubrication oil pipe to the vacuum pump may not have been tightened properly during vehicle assembly. If not adequately tightened the bolt may loosen after prolonged vehicle operation, which can result in oil seepage or leakage from the packing seals. Normally, as oil is lost, the oil warning lamp will illuminate and there may be abnormal engine noise. However, if the problem is not addressed, the loss of oil can cause engine seizure. If the engine seizes while the vehicle is being driven, the vehicle may experience sudden deceleration, which could result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the packing seals and tighten the bolt to specified torque.
