On certain vehicles, the Electronic Control Module (ECM) software may not detect a brake pedal switch failure. If the brake pedal switch malfunctions, application of the brake pedal would fail to deactivate the cruise control. The driver would, however, be able to disengage the cruise control by other means such as; pressing the cruise control main switch located on the instrument panel, shifting the transmission into neutral or another gear, lowering the speed of the vehicle by more than 48 km/h (30 mph) through braking and/or shifting gears, or by turning the engine OFF. Failure or delay in disengaging the cruise control can increase the risk of a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury.
On certain vehicles electrical contacts in the ignition switch can degrade due to the high electrical current passing through the switch when the vehicle is started. Worn contacts could cause the engine to stall without warning, increasing the risk of a crash.
