The 2007 Ducati 1098 has 3 recalls, the most serious being a rear drive sprocket that can fail while riding, allowing the chain to tangle in the rear wheel and cause a sudden loss of control.
The engine control unit on certain motorcycles was set with incorrect ignition timing and idle mixture, which can cause the engine to stall when the cooling system reaches normal operating temperature. Losing power mid-ride raises the risk of a crash. There is also a coolant hose concern: a hose connecting the horizontal cylinder head to the thermostat can develop a leak, spraying hot coolant that can scald the rider's leg or coat the rear tire, sharply reducing traction and creating a crash risk.
