2014 Ducati 1199 Superleggera

The 2014 Ducati 1199 Superleggera has 4 recalls, the most serious being a clutch damper plate that can fatigue and break, potentially locking the rear wheel and causing the rider to lose control.

The clutch issue stems from a damper plate between the primary driven gear and the clutch basket that can crack under normal stress. When it breaks, fragments can become displaced inside the assembly, either seizing the engine and locking the rear wheel mid-ride, or stalling the motorcycle without warning. The rear shock absorber presents a separate handling concern: a nut on the damper rod can work loose, causing the shock to lose its damping ability and potentially disassemble entirely, leaving the rear suspension with no meaningful control over bumps or weight transfer. There is also an engine oiling issue where crankcase pressure can push oil into the airbox, and in some cases that oil finds its way onto the rear tire, reducing traction on the contact patch where the bike relies most on grip.
