2018 Ducati Monster 1200

The 2018 Ducati Monster 1200 has 4 recalls, the most serious involving both the front and rear braking systems, where failures can reduce or eliminate stopping ability and raise the risk of a crash.

Two recalls address the front brake master cylinder and rear brake hose. The front master cylinder can fail outright, cutting front braking force entirely. The rear brake hose is vulnerable to heat damage that can cause the rear brakes to fail as well. A separate rear brake recall covers a different mechanism: air can work its way into the rear brake hydraulic system, softening brake feel and lengthening the distance the bike needs to stop. Taken together, these three brake-related recalls mean the Monster 1200 may face reduced braking performance at both ends of the motorcycle. On the drivetrain side, the gear shift lever may have been assembled incorrectly, allowing the shift knob to detach from the lever during riding. Without a secure shift knob, the rider may be unable to change gears, which can be particularly dangerous when engine braking or acceleration response is needed to manage speed through traffic or corners.
