SOME ENGINE EXHAUST PIPES HAVE MISSED A RESHAPING OPERATION WHICH ENSURES ADEQUATE CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE EXHAUST PIPE AND THE STEERING COLUMN COUPLING JOINT. THIS CONDITION MAY CAUSE THE EXHAUST PIPE TO RESTRICT THE MOVEMENT OF THE STEERING SYSTEM.
On certain vehicles, the electrical water pump assembly, used to circulate coolant through the hybrid components, may fail. If this were to occur, coolant would stop circulating, illuminating various warning lights in the instrument panel of the vehicle. In certain cases, the water pump motor could short-circuit, causing the hybrid system to stop functioning and the engine to stall. A loss of propulsion, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the driver's reactions, could increase the risk of a crash causing personal injury and/or property damage.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the electrical water pump.

FORD IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 1998-2003 WINDSTAR VEHICLES MANUFACTURED FROM SEPTEMBER 1, 1997, THROUGH JULY 3, 2003, REGISTERED IN PUERTO RICO. DUE TO INCREASED STRESSES CAUSED BY HIGH CYCLES OF TORSIONAL LOADING, SPECIFIC TO THIS MARKET, THE REAR AXLE CAN CRACK.
Safety Risk
A FRACTURED AXLE MAY RESULT IN A LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Remedy
FORD WILL NOTIFY OWNERS, AND DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND INSTALL A REINFORCEMENT BRACKET ON THE REAR AXLE OR REPLACE THE AXLES, AS NECESSARY. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PROVIDED FREE OF CHARGE. On certain vehicles, the steering gear unit internal end-of-travel stops may have missed the heat treat process, resulting in soft internal travel stops. Soft steering gear internal travel stops could be damaged in normal use and result in sticking, binding, or seizing of the steering gear and the potential for reduced steering control. This could increase the risk of a crash without prior warning.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Steering gear assemblies will be inspected for a suspect build date code and those containing a suspect build date code will be replaced.

Certain vehicles may have a misrouted A/C suction/discharge combo line. This could cause the line to be pinched, cut or thermally degraded by the exhaust manifold heat shield. This could result in loss of air conditioning and cause smoke and/or fire, which would increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect for misrouted A/C suction discharge combo lines, and replace those found to be misrouted.

On certain vehicles, the passenger (frontal) airbag inflator could produce excessive internal pressure during airbag deployment. Increased pressure may cause the inflator to rupture, which could allow fragments to be propelled toward vehicle occupants, increasing the risk of injury. This could also damage the airbag module, which could prevent proper deployment during a crash where deployment is warranted, increasing the risk of personal injury to the seat occupant.
On certain vehicles, a small amount of water may have been left in the fuel pump electrical connector after fuel tank integrity (leak) testing at the factory. This residual water may cause the fuel pump to fail due to corrosion. If the pump stops working, the engine will stall without warning, increasing the potential for a crash.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect for corrosion, and if required, replace the fuel pump assembly.

ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH THE QG18DE ENGINE OR QR25DE ENGINES, THE FOAM MATERIAL USED FOR THE INTERIOR LINING OF THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE (ECM) BOX EMITS SULFUR AS IT CURES.
Safety Risk
IF ONE OF THE RESISTORS INSIDE THE ECM HAS A CRACK ON THE SURFACE COATING, THE GAS MAY CAUSE CORROSION OF THE RESISTOR. THIS COULD CAUSE THE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT TO COME ON, POOR DRIVABILITY (IDLE INSTABILITY, POOR ACCELERATOR), OR THE ENGINE TO STOP RUNNING DURING VEHICLE OPERATION, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.
Remedy
DEALERS WILL REMOVE THE INSIDE LINING MATERIAL FROM THE ECM BOX. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN ON DECEMBER 22, 2003. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.

The NEMA 14-50 electrical adapter, supplied with the universal mobile charging connector on certain Tesla Motors vehicles, may be impacted by higher than normal electrical resistance due to variations in external sources of electricity. This could cause the plug and/or wall receptacle to deform, melt, or overheat, potentially resulting in an electrical short and increasing the risk of a fire.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Vehicle software has been updated over the air already to reduce charging current if a high-resistance condition is detected. As an extra measure of assurance, owners will be supplied with a redesigned NEMA 14-50 adapter containing an internal thermal fuse. Updated adapters will be sent by Canada Post or commercial carrier once available.

On certain vehicles equipped with a trailer lighting control module, water may enter the module and connector, and could cause wiring corrosion and damage to the module. This could result in an electrical short to ground, which could cause an uncommanded seat belt pretensioner deployment, a burning smell and/or an increased risk of fire, even when the vehicle is parked and the ignition is off. This may also cause turn signals to flash rapidly as well as cause a loss of the instrument cluster display, heater and air conditioning controls, and multimedia system (radio, screens, SYNC). An electrical short could increase the risk of injury and/or damage to property.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will add a drainage hole to the driver’s door stepwell and incorporate a fuse into the vehicle wiring harness.
