On certain vehicles, the digital fuel injection vehicle down sensor (VDS) may be dislodged from its normal mounting position during battery maintenance. This sensor is designed to stop the engine and prevent the fuel injection system from pumping fuel unnecessarily if the vehicle falls down. If the sensor is not properly installed, the engine may crank but not start or the engine may stop during certain riding situations, like leaning over on a turn. Sudden loss of engine power could cause the operator to lose their balance with the potential for a vehicle crash.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will ensure that the vehicle down sensor is properly installed, install a warning label on the vehicle to assure that the sensor is properly installed in the future and place revised pages in the owner's manual.
