On certain vehicles, the engine control unit may be out of specification. This could result in the engine shutting down when applying the brakes just before stopping the vehicle, and/or with a high engine load combined with an insufficient accelerator pedal actuation following an ECO start. Depending on traffic conditions, an unintentional engine shut-down could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will update the engine and transmission control unit software.
Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2017-2018 Audi A3 Cabriolet and A3 Sedan vehicles. The Engine Control Unit (ECU) software may misinterpret the flywheel rotation on engine start-up as a "knocking" condition, and the adjusted air/fuel mixture may result in an engine stall.
Safety Risk
An engine stall can increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Audi will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the ECU software, free of charge. The recall began September 19, 2017. Owners may contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 24DF.

On certain vehicles equipped with a 2.8L V6 5-valve engine and automatic transmission, while driving for a considerable period of time at a steady rate of speed during extremely low ambient temperatures (-15 degrees Celsius or below), the throttle may not return to idle position due to ice accumulating in the throttle body. In this instance the driver can apply additional brake force or take other actions (such as shifting into Neutral, turning off the ignition, etc.) to positively stop the vehicle. In the absence of such action, the vehicle may maintain speed when the driver expects the vehicle to slow. If this occurs, it could lead to an increase in the stopping distance and possible collision with bystanders, a fixed object or another vehicle which may cause serious injuries or even death.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the throttle body assembly.

Safety Risk
The electronic control unit (ECU) will adjust the air/fuel ration based on inaccurate data, causing an engine stall and increasing the risk of a crash.

Kia Canada is conducting a Product Improvement Campaign that provides an update to the engine control module to detect potential problems before an engine fails. An engine failure could cause a sudden loss of power with an inability to restart.
Note: This only affects vehicles equipped with a 2.0 L Nu GDI engine.
Safety Risk
A sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of an accident. An engine failure could also create the risk of a fire.
Remedy
Kia will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to update the software for the engine control module.
Note: Kia recommends that you should always follow the correct vehicle maintenance schedule, which is printed in the Owner's Manual. On certain vehicles, small metal particles that are not captured by the oil filter can build up in the oil pump. If this happens, the engine oil pressure may be reduced. This can cause engine wear and result in abnormal engine noise. The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) and/or oil pressure warning light may also turn on. If you continue to drive the vehicle with these symptoms, the engine could fail. An engine failure can cause a sudden loss of power with an inability to restart.
Note: This only affects vehicles equipped with a 2.0 L Nu MPI engine.
Safety Risk
A sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Kia will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to replace the oil pan with a new one that has two magnets to capture small metal particles.

Safety Risk
A detached flywheel can cause loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, driveline pieces may be ejected from the engine compartment, increasing the risk of injury.
Remedy
The affected vehicles are still within the manufacturer's control. The Volvo Trucks manufacturing facility will properly torque the capscrews and inspect for possible damage and, if necessary, repair any damage found, free of charge. On certain motorcycles, the engine crankcase vent hole in the air cleaner case could be blocked by material left during the molding process. This could allow air pressure to build-up in the engine and cause the cylinder head cover gasket to be pushed out of place. Oil leakage from the engine during operation could drip or spray onto the rear tire, creating the risk of a crash, possibly causing personal injury or death.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect the air cleaner case and, if necessary, remove the obstruction.
