Certain vehicles may fail to conform to Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 114 - Theft Protection and Rollaway Protection, and CMVSS 208 - Occupant Protection In Frontal Impacts. The radio software may intermittently fail to provide an audio warning when a key is left in the ignition and the driver door is opened, or when the driver forgets to put on their seat belt, which is contrary to the requirements of the standard. A loss of the seat belt audible warning may increase the likelihood of a front outboard occupant being unbelted, increasing the risk of injury in a crash. Similarly, the loss of an audible warning when a key is left in the ignition may increase the risk of vehicle theft.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will reflash the radios with corrected software.
On certain Ford police interceptor vehicles equipped with an auxiliary battery installed by Crown North America, a division of Leggett & Platt Automotive Group, as part of emergency vehicle upfit, the wiring connecting the trunk-mounted auxiliary battery to the vehicle electrical system may have been misrouted or improperly retained. Over time, this could allow the wiring to be damaged, potentially resulting in an electrical short which could cause a fire resulting in injury and/or damage to property.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Ford dealers will inspect wiring and repair, reroute and/or secure as necessary.
On certain motorcycles, the regulator/rectifier assembly may have been produced with insufficient adhesion between the power module (circuit board) and the rectifier case. Due to this insufficient adhesion, heat generated on the power module circuit board can cause the circuit board to deform. This could cause excessive heat on the circuit board and uncontrolled electric current output, which can result in insufficient charging current being provided to the vehicle's battery. Battery discharge could lead to engine stalling and/or a no-start condition. Lost propulsion, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the rider's reactions, could increase the risk of a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the regulator/rectifier assembly.
On certain vehicles equipped with illuminated sun visor vanity mirrors with 120mm wiring, service repairs requiring removal of the sun visors and/or headliner may cause an electrical short circuit which could increase the risk of a fire causing injury and/or damage to property. Vehicles equipped with 120mm wiring that were previously repaired under recall 2014-275 will require repair under this recall.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the sun visors and modify the surrounding sheet metal and install vanity lamp wiring guides.
On certain motorcycles, electrical system performance could be affected by a weak connection at the crank case, corrosion at the ignition switch due to exposure to corrosive liquids, and/or improper routing causing wiring to wear against the fuel tank. These issues could potentially result in engine stalling and a loss of motive power, inability to shut off the engine with the ignition key, or short circuits potentially resulting in a fire. An increased risk of injury and/or damage to property could result.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will relocate the crankcase ground wire, inspect the ignition switch wiring and wiring harness in proximity to the fuel tank for corrosion and/or abrasion damage, and repair as necessary. Dealers will also add shielding and abrasion resistant material to protect the wiring.
On certain vehicles, a defect in the Lighting Control Module could cause the headlight high and low beams to become inoperative without warning, causing the headlights to revert to reduced-voltage daytime running light function. This would cause a reduction in lighting output, potentially increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.
On certain motorcycles, the starter relay switch may have had sealant incorrectly applied during assembly. This could result in increased resistance across the main fuse, potentially interrupting battery voltage to the electrical system. An interruption of battery voltage to the electrical system could cause the engine to either not start or stall while driving. Increased resistance at the main fuse could also cause a fire, potentially resulting in injury and/or property damage.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect the starter relay switch, and replace if necessary.
On certain vehicles, the wiring harness connector located in the area of the drivers footrest could corrode over time due to repeated exposure to melted snow/water containing road salt. This could eventually result in illumination of several warning lamps including the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) warning lamp. If the SRS warning lamp is illuminated and the vehicle is subsequently involved in a collision that warrants frontal air bag deployment, the timing of the frontal airbag deployment(s) may be delayed, which would increase the risk of injury to the seat occupant(s).
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will install a waterproof sheet to prevent potential contamination and corrosion of the connector. The connector will also be inspected and, if any corrosion is found, the connector will be replaced with a new one.
Certain vehicles may experience an intermittent loss of electrical contact in the ignition switch electrical contact block. This may result in loss of motive power and/or partial or complete loss of function of the following safety systems; Airbag/supplemental restraint systems (SRS), Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Instrument Panel Cluster. The loss of motive power, ABS and/or ESC system(s), in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the driver's reactions, may increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. The loss of airbag/SRS function in a crash that warrants airbag/SRS function may increase the risk of injury to vehicle occupants.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the ignition switch contact holder block.
On certain vehicles, inconsistent application of grease during the manufacturing process could cause the driver's side power window master switch to stick or become inoperative due to electrical contact point wear. This could cause debris to accumulate between the contact points, potentially resulting in an electrical short circuit. If a short circuit occurs, the switch assembly may overheat, produce smoke, melt and/or potentially lead to a fire causing injury and/or property damage.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect the driver's power window master switch and apply a specialized grease that inhibits heat build-up, or replace the power window master switch circuit board, as necessary.

On certain vehicles, a defect in the ignition switch could cause an electrical short to develop over time. This could result in smoke and/or fire, increasing the risk of injury and/or damage to property.
On certain vehicles, a defect within the alternator-starter motor wiring harness could cause an electrical short, potentially resulting in a fire. Should this occur while the vehicle is being driven, it could also result in the engine stalling, causing a loss of motive power and increasing the risk of a crash. Both situations could increase the risk of injury and/or damage to property.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect replace the alternator-starter motor wiring harness routing and affect repairs as necessary.
Certain vehicles may have a loose electrical connection at the firewall junction. Under certain conditions, this connection could overheat, which would increase the risk of fire causing injury and/or damage to property.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the original nut securing the connection with a new lock nut.
On certain vehicles, a defect in the ignition lock actuator may make turning the ignition key difficult or cause the key to get stuck in the “start” position. This may be more likely to occur at higher interior ambient temperatures. If the vehicle is driven with the key stuck in the “start” position, and the vehicle experiences a significant jarring event or the vehicle’s interior temperature cools, the ignition key could move out of the “start” position, rotate past the “run” position, and move into the “accessory” position, causing the engine to shut off. This would result in a loss of motive power and affect power steering and power brake system function, which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. The timing of the key movement out of the “run” position, relative to the activation of the sensing algorithm in a crash event, may also result in the airbags not deploying in a subsequent collision, increasing the risk of injury.
On certain vehicles equipped with an Idle Free Model BA600 Electric Auxiliary Power Unit (APU), the mounting points on the housing of the APU could crack or tear. This could cause the power unit to possibly fail, or detach from the truck, creating a road hazard and increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, install a welded gusset upgrade kit and stronger clamping brackets.
Certain vehicles may have been assembled with a defective front windshield wiper motor that could overheat when in use. This could cause the windshield wiper motor cover to melt, smoke and/or catch fire, which would increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the front windshield wiper motor cover assembly.
On certain vehicles equipped with Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), when the ACC is engaged, the driver may experience unexpected braking while passing a large, highly reflective vehicle. An unexpected ACC braking event could increase the risk of a crash involving a trailing vehicle.
