On certain vehicles, the Mazda all-weather floor mats, sold as over-the-counter accessories, could interfere with the accelerator pedal. The pedal may get stuck behind the floor mat, which would prevent the vehicle from properly decelerating when the accelerator is released, leading to increased stopping distance.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Owners will be notified of the defect and instructed to return the floor mats to their dealer. When modified all-weather floor mats are available, they will be shipped directly to vehicle owners.
On certain vehicles, the accelerator pedal might not have been fully fastened to its mounting studs during vehicle assembly. Due to the geometry and tension in the assembly, the mounting studs will maintain the position of the accelerator pedal but may, over time, not maintain a consistent pedal position, which could make it more difficult to operate the accelerator.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect the pedal assembly and, if required, install two nuts.
On certain vehicles equipped with an M6 manual transmission, the clutch master cylinder elbow may develop a hairline crack under normal operating conditions. A fluid leak from the clutch hydraulic system could cause the fluid level warning light to illuminate and a loss of gear-shifting capability.
On certain vehicles, water can accumulate within the manual door latch mechanism and freeze in low ambient temperatures. The ice build-up can interfere with proper door latch operation. If the sliding door is not properly latched, it could open during vehicle operation.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the right and left sliding door latch modules with updated versions.
This vehicle may have inadequate windshield adhesive bonding due to the use of over-exposed red primer. This condition may result in a windshield bond that does not meet the retention requirements of CMVSS 212. As a result, the windshield may not be retained during a vehicle crash.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
The affected vehicle has been repaired by replacement of the windshield using Ford recommended procedures and materials.
On certain vehicles, the dealer-installed accessory trailer hitch was not welded properly during manufacturing process. Hitch failure could allow the towed unit to separate from the towing vehicle.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and, if required, replace the hitch assembly.
On certain vehicles, the owner's manual does not contain information concerning a higher risk of rollover and special features for occasional off-road operation. Canadian regulations in this area differ from those in the United States and thus Canadian vehicles are not out of compliance. However, the visor label does refer to the owner's manual for further higher risk rollover information, therefore, DaimlerChrysler will mail an addendum card for insertion into the owner's manual. A bilingual visor label will also be included as part of this mailing for use as required.
On certain vehicles, the fuel pump module and/or the powertrain control module (PCM) software may allow the engine to stall if driven under certain operating conditions. This could result in a crash without warning.
On certain vehicles, a combination of throttle position sensor (TPS) irregularities, a dirty throttle housing, and/or inefficient software calibration, may cause a warning lamp to illuminate and the subsequent onset of "limp home" mode.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will install an electronic throttle system software upgrade in both the electronic throttle module (ETM) and the engine control module (ECM).
On certain vehicles, the ignition key interlock cable may have been improperly manufactured. This could allow the automatic transmission gear selector lever to be moved out of the PARK position with the key removed from the ignition switch. If the park brake is not applied, and the gear shift lever is moved out of PARK, the vehicle may roll and result in a vehicle crash.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and, if required, replace the interlock cable.
Certain vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of CMVSS 114 - Locking and Immobilization Systems. The steering wheel lock may engage with the ignition in the "OFF" position, even if the transmission is out of the "PARK" position.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and, if required, replace the steering wheel lock assembly.
On certain vehicles, the door latch mechanisms may experience water intrusion that, over time, may wash out grease applied during the manufacturing process. This may allow the latch mechanism to freeze during temperatures significantly below zero degrees Celsius, in combination with a wet environment. As a result, the door latch pawl may not return to the latched position when the door is closed, allowing the door to open while the vehicle is in motion.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will: 1) install a shield over the front latches; 2) seal a drain hole in the rear window trim moulding on Freestyle rear side doors; and 3) apply grease to all front and rear side-door latch mechanisms.
On certain motorcycles, the pivot bolt for the side stand leg or the mounting bracket bolts could break. If either of these failures occur, the motorcycle could fall, possibly causing death or injury.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the side stand assembly and fasteners.
On certain vehicles, due to the improper installation of the retaining clips for the floor carpet cover located in front of the center console, there is a possibility that the clips may become loose. If both clips separate from the floor carpet cover, the cover may lean toward the accelerator pedal, causing interference with the accelerator pedal rod. In the worst case, the accelerator pedal may become stuck in a partially depressed position when returning to the idle position.
On certain motorcycles, the welded joint on the shift lever shaft may fail causing the shift lever to become inoperable. If this component separates at the welded joint, the transmission cannot be shifted and will remain in the gear that was selected prior to the joint breaking.
On certain motorcycles, the bolts holding the Vehicle Down Sensor may not have been tightened sufficiently during vehicle assembly. If the bolts loosen and the Vehicle Down Sensor comes out of its bracket, 1) the engine may stop during vehicle operation, creating the potential for a crash resulting in injury or death; or 2) it is possible for the engine to continue running if the vehicle has fallen down, creating the potential for injury or further vehicle damage.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will tighten the Vehicle Down Sensor mounting bolts to the proper torque.
On certain Mustang SVT Cobra vehicles, the accelerator pedal may come into contact with floor carpeting during heavy throttle application. Interference from the floor carpeting may prevent the accelerator pedal from returning to the idle position when released. Unexpected continued throttle application and/or increased stopping distances could result in a vehicle crash.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will install a bracket over the cut-out in the carpet behind the accelerator pedal.
