On certain vehicles equipped with 3.6L engines and 160 amp output alternators, the alternator may fail suddenly. This could result in the engine stalling, causing a loss of motive power which could increase the risk of a crash as well as disable various vehicle safety systems, and could also cause a fire. Both issues could increase the risk of injury and/or damage to property.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the alternator.

On certain vehicles, due to a manufacturing defect the start/stop button could stick inside of its housing. If this occurs, vibration could cause the electrical components inside the button to contact repeatedly in quick succession and initiate the emergency engine shut off procedure while the vehicle is in motion. This could result in increased steering and braking effort, a loss of motive power and would disable the supplemental restraint systems (SRS), increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and repair defective start/stop switch as necessary.

The trailer braking system may fail, increasing the distance needed to stop the vehicle.
Safety Risk
If the vehicle unexpectedly needs an extended braking distance, there would be an increased risk of a crash.
Remedy
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the powertrain control module, free of charge. The recall began on February 19, 2016. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. On certain vehicles, the stop lamp switch may become misadjusted if an upward force is applied to the brake pedal. The stop lamp electrical contacts in a misadjusted stop lamp switch may not open when the brake pedal is at its natural rest position, resulting in the brake lights staying illuminated continuously without service brake pedal application.
Safety Risk

Remedy
Dealers will replace the stop lamp switch.

On certain vehicles, moisture could enter the rear wiring harness through a connection located underneath a drain hole in the truck bed and cause corrosion to form in some connection terminals. If corrosion of the rear wheel speed sensor terminals occurs, it could increase the electrical resistance and may be interpreted by the vehicle stability assist (VSA) as wheel slippage, resulting in a decrease of engine torque or brake application to the rear wheel(s). The unexpected and unnecessary application of brake assist while driving may increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect the rear wiring harness and corresponding rear drivetrain components for moisture and/or corrosion. If present, the dealer will replace the rear wiring harness and corresponding components as necessary. If there is no moisture or corrosion, the dealer will repair the rear wiring harness to eliminate the potential for moisture intrusion.

Safety Risk
A short circuit could lead to a vehicle fire.
Remedy
Chrysler has begun notifying owners and they are being advised to immediately refrain from driving their vehicles and to contact their dealers. Chrysler Group further advises affected owners not to park their vehicles in, or near, any structures. Dealers will replace the under hood starter cable assembly, free of charge. On certain vehicles, a defect in the ignition switch could allow the switch to move out of the "run" position if the key ring is carrying added weight or the vehicle goes off-road or is subjected to some other jarring event. If this were to occur, engine power, power steering and power braking would be affected, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. The timing of the key movement out of the “run” position, relative to the activation of the sensing algorithm of the crash event, may also result in the airbags not deploying in a subsequent collision, increasing the risk of injury.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
For each key, dealers will install two key rings and modify the key ring opening shape.

On certain vehicles, the wiring harness connector located in the area of the drivers footrest could corrode over time due to repeated exposure to melted snow/water containing road salt. This could eventually result in illumination of several warning lamps including the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) warning lamp. If the SRS warning lamp is illuminated and the vehicle is subsequently involved in a collision that warrants frontal air bag deployment, the timing of the frontal airbag deployment(s) may be delayed, which would increase the risk of injury to the seat occupant(s).
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will install a waterproof sheet to prevent potential contamination and corrosion of the connector. The connector will also be inspected and, if any corrosion is found, the connector will be replaced with a new one.

On certain motorcycles, the main ignition switch's wire connection could overheat, due to electrical resistance, and become hot enough to melt the solder connecting the wire to the main switch. As a result, the wire could come off the switch, preventing the electrical system from functioning. Should this occur while the motorcycle is being ridden, the engine could stall and be impossible to restart. A loss of propulsion, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the driver's reactions, could increase the risk of a crash causing personal injury or death.

Certain vehicles may be equipped with an accessory trailer wiring harness that could fail. Over time, water could leak into the control module and cause a short circuit. If this happens, there could be loss of the trailer lights.
Note: This recall affects trailer wiring harness kits that may have been ordered at the time of a vehicle purchase, or purchased separately from a dealer as an aftermarket accessory.
Safety Risk
A loss of trailer lights could make the trailer less visible. In addition, other drivers may not recognize that the vehicle ahead is braking or intends to turn. This could increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Kia will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to inspect the trailer wiring harness. If the harness is from the lot (batch) affected by this problem, the dealer will replace it. Kia recommends that you should always check to ensure that trailer lights work properly before towing.

Certain vehicles, which were parked at the port of entry in Halifax during the ice storms in February 2015, may have been exposed to excessive standing water and salt for an extended period due to this isolated environmental incident. Certain MINI models could have corrosion at the starter motor power supply cable connectors, which could lead to the inability to restart the engine following an engine shutdown by the start-stop (MSA) system, increasing the risk of crash causing injury in a traffic situation. On certain BMW models, the lubrication of some internal components within the steering rack may have been exposed to excessive water or salt which could result in higher than normal steering effort or steering binding, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. In addition, electrical wires and/or connectors in all affected vehicles may have been exposed to water or salt, which could lead to increased electrical system resistance, and increase the risk of fire causing injury and/or damage to property.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Owners should contact their selling Retailer regarding this recall. Affected vehicles will be inspected. Some vehicles will be taken out of service immediately and owners will be provided with temporary transportation until a new replacement vehicle is available. All other vehicles are cleared of this safety concern and may continue to be driven until a new replacement vehicle is available. Due to potential concerns about long term vehicle quality, all affected vehicles will ultimately be removed from service.
