On certain vehicles operated in areas where road salt and de-icing chemicals are used, if the driver enters the vehicle with a salt/snow mixture on their feet, this could melt and soak the carpet, allowing the salt-water solution to contact the base of the Engine Control Unit (ECU). As a result, the ECU could suffer corrosion damage, which may cause the engine to stall. Engine stalling would result in a loss of vehicle propulsion which, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the driver’s reactions, could increase the risk of a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will install a waterproof cover over the ECU. A damaged ECU will be replaced.

On certain vehicles, the StabiliTrak System may have been incorrectly calibrated during the manufacturing process. As a result, the system may not properly detect a malfunctioning sensor, and the warning lamp (indicating that the system is not operating) may not illuminate. Failure to properly diagnose a malfunctioning sensor may cause the Electronic Control System (ESC) to falsely activate, resulting in sudden changes in vehicle handling and deceleration, particularly at higher speeds, which may cause the driver difficulty in maintaining the vehicle's desired path of travel and speed. This could result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
