Volvo Trucks North America (Volvo Trucks) is recalling certain 2022 VNL vehicles equipped with Cummins X15 diesel engines. The capscrews that attach the flywheel to the crankshaft may have been improperly torqued, allowing the flywheel to detach.
Safety Risk
A detached flywheel can cause loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, driveline pieces may be ejected from the engine compartment, increasing the risk of injury.
Remedy
The affected vehicles are still within the manufacturer's control. The Volvo Trucks manufacturing facility will properly torque the capscrews and inspect for possible damage and, if necessary, repair any damage found, free of charge. The recall began January 5, 2021. Owners may contact Volvo Trucks customer service at 1-800-528-6586.
On certain vehicles, the passenger (frontal) airbag inflator could produce excessive internal pressure during airbag deployment. Increased pressure may cause the inflator to rupture, which could allow fragments to be propelled toward vehicle occupants, increasing the risk of injury. This could also damage the airbag module, which could prevent proper deployment. Failure of the passenger airbag to fully deploy during a crash (where deployment is warranted) could increase the risk of personal injury to the seat occupant. Note: This recall supersedes recalls 2013113, 2014224, 2015197 and 2015269.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
All vehicles having not received a replacement inflator as part of the previous recall will now have a replacement inflator installed by dealers. For Matrix model vehicles, dealers may replace the front passenger airbag assembly with one equipped with a newly specified inflator.

On certain vehicles, the right parking brake cable may have been incorrectly installed resulting in insufficient clearance with the fuel tank, causing abrasive contact between the two components. This contact could result in the coating on the fuel tank deteriorating and allowing rust to form, which could result in fuel leakage. Fuel leakage, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire causing injury and/or damage to property.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the right parking brake cable and inspect the fuel tank. If the fuel tank’s exterior coating is damaged from contact with the parking brake cable, the fuel tank will also be replaced.

On certain M3 and M4 models, a problem with the driveshaft flange may cause its disconnection. This could result in a loss of propulsion, which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage.
On certain motorcycles, the engine crankcase vent hole in the air cleaner case could be blocked by material left during the molding process. This could allow air pressure to build-up in the engine and cause the cylinder head cover gasket to be pushed out of place. Oil leakage from the engine during operation could drip or spray onto the rear tire, creating the risk of a crash, possibly causing personal injury or death.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect the air cleaner case and, if necessary, remove the obstruction.
