On certain vehicles, the steering intermediate shaft splines may have been improperly hardened. If the steering wheel is held firmly on the steering lock while turning sharply at low speeds, the splines could deform and wear, causing a backlash in the steering system. The splines could also become fully stripped, resulting in a potential loss of control causing a crash resulting in injury and/or damage to property.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect the vehicles and replace affected steering shafts.

Certain 2000-2002 Saab 9-3 and 9-5 model vehicles equipped with 4-cylinder gasoline engines, and 2001-2003 9-5 models equipped with 6-cylinder gasoline engines may experience overheating and burnout of the Isolated Gated Bipolar Transistor (IGBT) within the Ignition Discharge Module (IDM) due to increased susceptibility to electrical loads. Overheating of the IGBT occurs most often at engine start-up but may also occur while the engine is running. When the IDM fails on a 4-cylinder while it is running, the engine may stall without warning, with no ability to be restarted. When the IDM fails on a 6-cylinder engine while it is running, the driver will initially experience reduced power and rough operation because the engine will only be running on three cylinders. The check engine light will flash. If the driver continues, unburnt fuel in the exhaust can cause thermal damage to the catalytic converter. The engine may stall and not restart.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and, if required, replace the IDM.

WHEN PRESSING AND RELEASING THE CLUTCH PEDAL, A BRACKET ON THE CLUTCH PEDAL LEVER MAY CONTACT THE ENGINE CONTROL WIRING HARNESS AND CAUSE ABRASION OF THE WIRING INSULATION. IF THIS OCCURS, THE DAMAGED INSULATION MAY RESULT IN A SHORT CIRCUIT TO THE ENGINE CONTROL WIRING WHICH COULD CAUSE UNEXPECTED ENGINE STALL.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
ENGINE CONTROL WIRING HARNESS WILL BE INSPECTED FOR DAMAGE AND REPOSITIONED TO ENSURE THAT CONTACT WITH THE BRACKET DOES NOT OCCUR.

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: MINIVANS EQUIPPED WITH AN ADJUSTABLE PEDAL OPTION. THE DRIVER FLOOR MAT COULD INTERFERE WITH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL.
Safety Risk
THIS CAN RESULT IN A STUCK THROTTLE, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Remedy
DEALERS WILL REPLACE BOTH FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR MATS IN THE VEHICLE. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN JULY 6, 2001. A SNAP RING WHICH LOCATES THE PARK GEAR ON THE OUTPUT SHAFT OF THE TRANSMISSION MAY FRACTURE AND ALLOW THE PARK GEAR TO SLIDE REARWARD. THIS WOULD MAKE IT IMPOSSIBLE TO ENGAGE THE PARK GEAR AND COULD RESULT IN VEHICLE MOVEMENT EVEN THOUGH THE GEAR SELECTOR IS PLACED IN THE PARK POSITION.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
AFFECTED VEHICLES WILL HAVE THE SNAP RING REPLACED WITH AN IMPROVED SNAP RING. IN ADDITION, A REVISED TRANSMISSION EXTENSION HOUSING WILL BE INSTALLED WHICH INCORPORATES A CAST STOP THAT WILL LIMIT PARK GEAR MOVEMENT EVEN IF A SNAP RING SHOULD FRACTURE.

On certain pickup trucks equipped with a 6.6L diesel engine and dual fuel tanks, the fuel tank transfer pump may malfunction, stopping the transfer of fuel from the rear tank to the front tank. This could cause the fuel gauge to display an inaccurate reading, and cause the front tank to become empty while fuel remains in the rear tank. This could result in engine stalling which, in conjunction with traffic, road conditions, and driver's reactions, could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the fuel transfer pump.

On certain vehicles operated at low temperatures (-29c), condensed moisture in the crankcase could be drawn into the carburetor and freeze. This condition could result in secondary throttle valve shaft icing which may cause the accelerator to stick in the open throttle position.
PERIODS OF EXTREME COLD TEMPERATURES CAN CAUSE THE RUBBER PROTECTIVE DIRT SLEEVE ON THE THROTTLE CABLE TO STIFFEN AND PREVENT THE THROTTLE FROM RETURNING TO THE IDLE POSITION.
THIS IS AN EXTENSION AND FOLLOW-UP OF RECALL V77123.

On certain vehicles equipped with the Active Curve System (ACS), the oil in the ACS’s reservoir could start foaming under certain dynamic driving situations in combination with an oil level below minimum. The oil foam could leak out of the oil reservoir through the vent holes in the sealing cap and spray onto hot surface components of the exhaust system. This could increase the risk of fire causing injury and/or damage to property.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect the ACS reservoir for proper oil level and replace the sealing cap with an updated part.
