On certain Monza 2+2, Skyhawk and Starfire vehicles, the strength of the conventional spare tire hold down "J" bolt may be inadequate in the event of a severe frontal collision. If such a collision occurs, the "J" bolt could straighten and the spare tire and wheel come loose and travel forward into the passenger area of the vehicle, increasing the possibility of occupant injury. Vehicles produced with the space-saver spare tire are also being included in this campaign even though the space-saver spare tire is stored in a well in the body.
On certain vehicles, the screws that attach the oil lines to the turbocharger may not have been properly tightened. If the screws are not properly tightened, oil could leak onto hot surfaces in the engine bay.
Safety Risk

Remedy
Mercedes-Benz will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to inspect and repair the turbocharger oil feed and return line mounting, as necessary.

Unintended airbag deployment, in a non-warranted (non-impact) situation, could result in injury and increase the risk of a vehicle crash causing injury and/or property damage.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will secure the wiring harness and add protective caps to the retainer spring.

On certain vehicles, a post molded into the inside surface of the front safety belt buckle cover may fracture. The fractured buckle cover post may affect the buckle function and may exhibit either "no latch" - an overt condition as the tongue will not latch into the buckle, or "partial latch" - likely an overt condition because, although the tongue can be inserted into the buckle and appear to be engaged, it will release from the buckle without the push button being depressed when a relatively low load is applied such as when an occupant moves slightly in the seat.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealer will replace both front safety belt buckle covers.

No corrective action required.
On certain vehicles, road salt can corrode the front control arms, which may ultimately lead to control arm failure. This could result in a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
For 2006-2007 model year vehicles, dealers will replace the front lower control arms if they were not previously replaced under recall 2013-388. On certain vehicles, the propeller shaft may not be properly attached to the intermediate bearing. As a result, the propeller shaft joint could wear out. This could cause vibrations that the airbag (SRS) control unit interprets as a crash and deploy the front airbags.
Safety Risk
A sudden deployment of the front airbags without a crash could create a risk of injury. This could also startle the driver, which may lead to a crash.
Remedy
Mercedes-Benz will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to inspect the propeller shaft and replace it, if necessary.

Over time, this could degrade the brake booster diaphragm and cause it to rupture, affecting power assist brake performance and potentially causing a complete loss of power assist, resulting in increased brake pedal effort. An unexpected increase in pedal effort could increase the risk of a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury the risk of a crash.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
